A backlink checker tool helps determine the number of hyperlinks that are pointing to your web page or blog in whole. Not all tools will give accurate results but that shouldn’t be a worry because i managed to pick 5 of the most reliable tools that will guarantee you accurate results.
All the tools i listed below will not only display the number of quality backlinks your blog has but will also display the entire SEO analysis of your website. Some of them are free and some have limited features for free plans only that you won’t have to pay a penny to know the number of backlinks your web page has. They might charge you for other SEO services.
Before we get started, i’ll go with what majority say and that is using Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) to check the number of links pointing to your website. It’s a good tool and will help display all the links pointing to your website but not all these links are quality backlinks. You might have wondered why you see so many links in Google Search Console yet tools like Alexa show less. Such tools display the exact quality backlinks that your blog has.
Backlink Checker Tools
The following 5 tools will help you check the backlinks that your blog has. I have also included the limitations you might face while using the tools.
1 – Google Search Console (Google Webmaster Tools)
With Google Webmaster Tools, you are able to check all the links pointing to your website. One good thing with it is it display even low quality links that might not be the case with other tools. To check your backlinks using Google Search Console, visit their website, chose the property (website) you want to check, click on ‘Search Traffic’ on the left menu tab, then on the drop down menu click on ‘Links to your Site’.
Drawback: The only drawback of this method is you won’t be able to check backlinks of websites you are not webmaster off. You can only use it to check websites that you manage.
2 – Moz
Moz is one of the most reliable and widely used SEO tools in existence today. Through Moz you can measure, monitor and evaluate various aspects a website’s search engine optimization. Their Open Site Explorer tool is what we are going to use to check for our backlinks. Check Banklinks with Moz here
Drawback: To access full analysis like seeing the exact web pages linking to your website you have to subscribe to their Pro Plan. There is a 30 Days trial period but you have to register for an account and also enter your credit card credentials. If you are not contented with their service you can terminate your account to avoid being charged.
3 – Semrush
Just like Moz, Semrush also offers a full SEO analysis. Semrush gains more and more popularity each day because of the quality service they provide. Good thing is they have both free an paid plans and with their free plan you are able to check for backlinks.
Drawback: Semrush will display only a few links if you are using their free plan. Their pro plan will display all the backlinks and referring domains for your blog. If your blog also receives low traffic you are not likely to get accurate results from their service. You can check your backlinks below:
4 – Alexa
Alexa is one of my favorite tools when it comes to checking backlinks. Their results are updated daily meaning a link received today is likely to be updated the following day. Thy provide accurate results even for low traffic websites. Check your website here
Drawback: Their free plan will make you view only 5 of the total websites linking to your website. To view the entire list you have to subscribe for a pro plan.
5 – Ahrefs
It’s among the best but i have put it last because they have no free plans. To be able to use their service to have to pay for it. Good thing is they have a free trial period of 14 days but you need to be registered to access it. Visit their website here. They also offer full SEO analysis for a website.
Drawback: They only have paid plans for their service but all i can say is it’s worth the money. You won’t have any regrets using their service.
